NAUTILUS FOSSIL SHELLS FOR SALE

CYMATECERAS NAUTILUS FOSSILS FROM MADAGASCAR ABOUT 125 MILLION YEARS OLD.  BEAUTIFUL COLORS AND BRIGHT IR1DESCENT SHELLS. NAUTILOIDS HAD FEEDING FEATURES SIMILIAR TO THE AMMONITES AND ORTHOCERAS (SQUIDS) WHERE THEY USED THEIR BEAKS AND RADULA TEETH TO EAT FOOD CAUGHT BY THEIR TENTACLES.  THE LIVING CHAMBER WAS THE NEWEST CHAMBER CALLED THE MANTLE CAVITY.  THE MANTLE SECREATED THE ARAGONITE TO FORM THE SHELL AS THE NAUTILUS GREW.  MANY OF THE FOLLOWING NAUTILUS SPECIMENS SHOW THE SIPHUNCLE OPENING.  THE SIPHUNCLE WAS A TUBE THAT CONNECTED THE OLD LIVING CHAMBERS TOGETHER TO CONTROL BUOYANCY BY GASES AND WATER DISPLACEMENT.  CLICK ON PICTURE FOR LARGER AND DIFFERENT VIEW OF THE NAUTILUS SHELL..
