QUARTZ CRYSTALS

QUARTZ IS SILICON DIOXIDE WHICH FORMS AND CRYSTALLIZES IN THE RHOMBOHEDRAL CRYSTAL SYSTEM. THE CRYSTALS HAVE SIX FACES EACH SHAPED LIKE A RHOMBUS (EQUILATERAL PARALLELOGRAM) AND HAVE A HARDNESS OF 7 ON MOHS SCALE. INCLUSIONS OF GASES, LIQUIDS, OR OTHER MINERALS GIVE QUARTZ A WIDE RANGE OF COLORS. SOME TYPICAL TYPES ARE: AMETHYST, CLEAR, MILKY, PHANTOM, ROSE, RUTILATED, SMOKY, AND TIGER EYE.
